We can’t believe another year has gone by and we are once again, for our 6th year, counting the days until we take your good wishes and support with us as we travel to Jerusalem to cycle for the kids of ALYN who can’t. You know how important these kids, this cause and the WHEELS OF LOVE ride have become to us. On October 24, 2010, we will once again be a part of 500 cyclists from around the world who are going to spend 5 days on bikes covering 300+ miles.
Each year we begin our trip with a tour of ALYN Hospital. We get to see firsthand the fruits of our labor and where your donation dollars go. As the only pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation center in Israel, it services victims of terrorist attacks and car accidents, children born with congenital and inherited disorders, head trauma, elective surgery, cancer and burns and injuries sustained in domestic accidents. The dedicated staff at ALYN treats thousands of youths annually, both Jewish and Arab alike. Such challenges and miracles cost money. While the number of children needing help is constantly and unfortunately growing, the Hospital’s financial resources are being taxed beyond capacity. Every year ALYN needs to raise millions of dollars just to close the gap between the actual cost of care and the amount reimbursed by referring sources. Last year’s participants managed to raise over $2 million on behalf of ALYN.
That’s really what this is all about. The people are great. The scenery is amazing. We love the cycling. But, it’s ALL about those kids.
The economy has not been kind this past year to ALYN. Because they get no government allocations and only a portion of each child’s care is reimbursed by health insurance we are determined to really outdo all our previous efforts in terms of how much money we can help raise for these kids. We are committed to push ourselves, following the lead of the heroic children of ALYN. If they can do it – so can we!
Please support our efforts by making a tax-deductible donation on our team page or by mailing a check to the American Friends of ALYN Hospital, 51 East 42nd Street, Suite 308 New York, NY 10017. Please be sure to put TEAM VELOJEWS in the memo line of the check. Thank you in advance for your generous support!
With sincere gratitude,
Carol and Joe Secor
Is there a way that simple individuals could share possible new inventions so that amputees could ride a bicycle powered by their artificial legs? New types of adaptations to wheelchairs for easier mobility. I am missing many important internal body parts so eventually I thought of those who have limbs removed or are of limited movement.
The ideas are quite simple but other ideas require a shop to make a types of bikes etc which have much greater vehicle mobility which I think has great commercial applications.
I was hoping to find a patent lawyer who does free work if I allowed the disabled in Israel to use them for free . I guess you could categorize me as disabled once you read what I am missing. I could not defend my possible inventions so I thought of sharing them with Israel.
Here are my limitations. You may find some comment very funny but it is not a very simple nor pleasant daily situation. Outside I appear quite strong until the very long scars are shown and people wonder how I could walk.
My diet is very seriously limited because of quadruple heart by pass two weeks before I had my gall bladder, duodenum and a part of my stomach removed in 2004.
I can not eat any oils, fats , meats, cereals almost all fruits, almost all vegetables all drinks except water because these can not be digest because these foods quickly turn into large volumes of gas. My case is unique because of the sound waves generated by large volumes of gas if I eat these foods.
I can roar much louder and much sharper than any lion for hours, which causes great fear in people passing or entering a stairway or a bathroom at college. I avoid occupied bathrooms and to be very cautious not to annoy the people even on the outdoor pathways during darkness hours. People usually are quite shocked by the intensity, duration and stereo of these unheard of bursts.
So I thought of finding energy mechanical efficiencies so that I could go farther without more often eating small meals and risking loud roars while riding a bicycle.
I hope that you understand that people with disabilities or at the least very annoying conditions work to eventually find inventive solutions. I started to see that others as diabetics and other types of cystic duodenum abnormalities limited their energy capabilities to ride bicycles.
Maybe I have found some ideas to help the disabled. I am just a simple individual and your group web sites asks for volunteers. I want to volunteer ideas which will be protected from Intellectual Property business abuse.
Please respond in English.
